Beth Mead praises 'normal' Prince William

Beth Mead found Prince William “very normal” when he awarded her with her MBE.

The Arsenal striker received the honour for services to football after the England women’s side won Euro 2022, and she’s told how the prince – who is president of the FA – “lit up” when he saw her.

She told Britain’s OK! Magazine: “It was pretty cool. I feel very honoured to have such a historic award.

“It was a tough one to begin with, because I think the whole team deserved one but only a few of us managed.

“But it was amazing. I walked into the room and Prince William’s face lit up because he loves football.

“It was an easy conversation with him because of that common interest.

“He asked how my knee was too – he knew I had an injury so was asking how the recovery had been.

“It’s nice that someone in that position can still be very normal and talk football.”

Beth’s life has been “very different” since the Lionesses historic win and she’s always amazed when she gets recognised in public.

She reflected: “My life has been very different since the Euros, even to this day I find it weird when people recognise me.

“It’s nice because it means the game is becoming bigger and people are recognising it and us, so long may that continue, in the nicest way.”
