Mats Hummels backs Borussia Dortmund to end Champions League run with glory

Mats Hummels is confident that Borussia Dortmund can triumph in the Champions League final.

The German side booked their spot in next month's Wembley showpiece by beating PSG 1-0 (2-0 on aggregate) in Tuesday's (07.05.24) semi-final second leg and the centre-back believes that the team can cap their surprise run by becoming kings of Europe.

Hummels told TNT Sports: "Since the second match of the group stage, we've believed that we can prevail in every game - and I don't see why we shouldn't win at Wembley now."

The defender powered home a header to seal Dortmund's spot in the final and was delighted to score a rare goal in such an important game.

He said: "I’ve scored far too few Champions League goals in my career, just five. Now is a good time to add to that number!

"We remained active today and were able to take so much pace out of the game and atmosphere out of the stadium. That was our recipe for success today."

Dortmund coach Edin Terzic expressed pride in his team's performance and stressed that his side's "dream is not over" as they bid to replicate their 1997 triumph in the competition.

He said: "If I have to find and pick one word it's just a very proud moment for us. I'm very proud for my staff, my team, my club. The dream is not over yet.

"We suffered a lot but we showed a very good away game against a team that is so powerful up front, so quick so mobile.

"We kept two clean sheets and won both games in the semi-final. It's unbelievable and outstanding.

"It was an outstanding team performance, other than that you have no chance of keeping a clean sheet, it's impossible."
