Didier Deschamps won't make 'radical decisions'

Didier Deschamps won’t make any “radical decisions” with France’s Euro 2024 squad.

The manager – who has been in charge of the national side since 2012 – won’t rule out introducing a new player to the line-up for the first time in the tournament, but only if he feels it would benefit the team.

Asked if he could include an uncapped player, he told World Soccer magazine: “I’m not going to make any radical decisions – I’ve never done so.

“But if I think it’s positive for the squad, why not?”

The Frenchman insisted he isn’t worried Kylian Mbappe could be playing less under Paris Saint Germain coach Luis Enrique and can see the benefits in the striker coming into the tournament feeling “fresh”.

He said: “An element of freshness in a major competition can be essential and playing three matches in a week inevitably causes fatigue.

“But there’s no rhythm problem for Kylian.

“Luis Enrique said he would not interfere in my affairs and I’m not going to stick my nose into his.”

And Didier still has a place in his team for Randal Kolo Muani, despite his lack of playing time at club level.

He said: “This has happened before – Olivier Giroud’s playing time with Chelsea was complicated, for example.

“Players have easier and harder periods but, obviously, to have confidence, you need playing time.

“Because of his past, because of his potential, Kolo Muani deserves his place in the group.”
