The 34-year-old fighter had been struggling to make the cut of 140lbs at super-lightweight but he’s a lot more at ease now he’s able to be less “strict” with his diet as a result of the higher weight class.
He told Boxing News magazine: “It’s a walk in the park. I walk around at about [157lbs] so if I was still making 140, I’d now be having to chip away at my calories.
“I’m still going to have to chip down to 147, but that’s not [as bad] as making super-lightweight, where I’ve got a hell of a lot of eight to shift.
“Because I’m naturally quite lean, I just had to be a lot more strict – in every aspect of the game – and couldn’t really afford to put too much muscle on.
“I wasn’t able to get any stronger but now that barrier has been lifted and I’m looking forward to not having to go through that drastic weight cut.
“So, I’m dead happy because I can eat a little bit more and put a bit more protein into me.”
Josh is now keen to become a welterweight world champion, to add to the super-lightweight title he won in 2021, and has been manifesting his goal.
He said: “My ambition is to become a two-weight world champion.
“I very much believe in the law of attraction, and so I keep telling myself that I’ll become a two-weight world champion – writing it down and looking at it.
“It’s worked well for me in the past, so no need to fix what’s not broken.”
