Beth Mead feels extra 'pressure' on England

Beth Mead thinks England face added “pressure” to retain their Euros crown.

The Arsenal forward knows all the Lionesses’ opponents will be determined to beat them following their victory in the 2022 tournament, but she thinks her teammates are good enough to rise to the challenge.

She told FourFourTwo magazine: “It comes with added pressure, because everyone will want to beat us.

“We have to revel in that challenge – there’s a lot of pressure going into this tournament, but our squad is good enough.”

Alessia was joint leading scorer with German’s Alexandra Popp at Euro 2022, and though she’d love to take home another Golden Boot, she insisted the entire England squad’s performance is more important than her individual displays.

She said: “I mean, I’d love to do that again – I had one of the tournaments of my life, both as part of the quad and individually with winning the Golden Boot, being named player of the tournament and also being top assist-provider.

“I’d love to replicate it, but more importantly, I want to help my team defend the Euros.

“I’d be happy for any of my teammates to win the Golden Boot.

“I’m hoping I can bring my very best form – let’s see this summer.”
