Thomas Tuchel: Arsenal and Liverpool have 'huge advantage' next season

Thomas Tuchel believes Arsenal and Liverpool have a "huge advantage" in next season's Premier League.

The England boss admitted the upcoming Club World Cup - which begins this weekend and runs until 13 July - could harm the title chances of Manchester City and Chelsea because their players will go from the tournament to their holiday period without any pre-season campaign before the domestic season kicks off again.

He said: "It will have a huge impact and it will give Liverpool and Arsenal a huge advantage next season to not be there.

“It will be a very nice experience for the players who are there to play this tournament for the first time so there are mixed feelings about it.

“I have decided not to worry too much because why should I? No one knows the outcome of it.

“We will deal with the effect when the effect comes.”

And Tuchel understands why clubs are "concerned" about the impact of the Club World Cup and international games.

He said: “The clubs are concerned and I get that after a long season.

“If you go and ask the players, you would get 25 who say ‘I want to start’."

His comments come after former Manchester City goalkeeper suggested the club should send their youth team to the tournament.

He told FourFourTwo magazine: “If I were Manchester City, I would declare my entire first team injured and send the youth team to the Club World Cup…

“I know there’s some obligation for being in it that you have to put your best team forward, but if players are injured, they’re injured, so declare them injured.

“You’ve got sports science teams looking at recovery periods – if you’re a team like Man City, most of your squad is involved in international duty as well, and what benefit is it to a club when the players you depend on for nine months of the season are being compromised for one competition?”
