Novak Djokovic's 'only motivation' is to defend Olympic title at LA 2028

Novak Djokovic says that the "only motivation" that remains in his career is to defend his Olympic title at Los Angeles 2028.

The Serbian tennis icon has reduced his schedule in recent years but remains determined to retain the Olympic gold medal he won in Paris last summer, even though he will be 41 when the event takes place.

Speaking to football manager Slaven Bilic in an interview with Neuspjeh privaka: "The only thing that at this moment, professionally speaking, I have in my vision at this point.

"And it's interesting when we talk about these achievements and the Olympics that stand out and redemption, the only thing that I have in my head, which gives me motivation, is the Olympics of 2028 in Los Angeles.

"And playing for the national team and Grand Slams. But not even the Grand Slams, not as much as the Olympics."

Djokovic explained that he learned how to adjust his schedule after seeing how his rival Roger Federer planned his events.

The 24-time major winner said: "For most of your career, when you’re young, every tournament counts.

"Many say that the Grand Slams are the most important. But in reality, they don’t live and train according to their schedule to be at their best for the Grand Slams, to be as fresh as possible for these events. They don’t.

"Why? Maybe they don’t believe in themselves enough, that they can go far in a Grand Slam tournament. Not everyone is cut out to compete at the top, and that’s normal. But there are ways.

"Federer helped me a lot in that regard, not directly but indirectly. I observed how he planned his schedule. He helped me understand how to manage my form, when to take a break, even if I didn’t want to.

"I also made mistakes. I didn’t take a break when I should have, but most of the time, I made the right decisions."
