Conor Benn vows to be ‘less emotional’ in rematch with Chris Eubank Jr.

Conor Benn has vowed he will be “less emotional” in his rematch with Chris Eubank Jr.

After losing to Next Gen, 35, in April, The Destroyer, 28, is set to face Eubank Jr. again on September 20, and Benn has now promised he will have “less heart, more brains” in the fight.

Speaking with Sky Sports, he said: “I'm going to go in there and steam straight into him. Same as the first one, less emotional, shall we say. Less heart, more brains, you know?”

Reflecting on his defeat to Eubank Jr. in April, Benn said: “I felt like in the fight, my demeanor was all win. I was up 30 seconds before the bell [to start each round]. I was up, ready to go.

“You look at my demeanour and look at his, who's deflated? For me, I'm excited to run it back, more educated. Experience gained, lessons learned, going to get in there and handle business.”

Benn's promoter Eddie Hearn is confident that a second fight between the pair “will be even better” than the original as neither man will relent from their attacking style of fighting.

The Matchroom chief told The Ring: “I just think the second fight will be even better. They're not going to change. They're going to come out from the first bell and just carry on like the 13th round. And when you see a fight like that, for me, the automatic thing to do is to do the rematch.

“The fight was always going to be two fights, but sometimes a fight's one-sided or it ends early and there isn't really the appetite for the rematch.

“I think here, now with Conor having that activity, which is something that was lacking from the first fight as well, we really fancy our chances.

“We know the weight's a disadvantage and that showed a little bit in the first fight, but fans can just expect a continuation of the 12th round and it'll be another toe-to-toe war.”

Following his rematch with Eubank Jr., Benn is likely to move down to a lower weight class, and has said he is open to fighting former interim lightweight world champion Ryan Garcia.

When he was asked whether he’d get in the ring with Garcia, 26, again, Benn said: “I'll fight any man, you know what I mean? If it makes money, it makes sense.

“Ultimately, I want the world title. For me, that's the main goal, is to get that WBC world title.

“But if there's a silly offer over, you can't really turn it down, can you?”
