Jannik Sinner 'living my dream' after first Wimbledon victory

Jannik Sinner says he is "living my dream" after winning Wimbledon for the first time.

The world number one became the first Italian to triumph at the All England Club after beating Carlos Alcaraz in four sets in Sunday's (13.07.25) final and finds it "amazing" to be at the top of the tennis world.

Sinner said: "It’s amazing to be in this position.

"We were talking before the match about how I would never have thought to be in this position. Back when I was young this was only a dream, a dream of a dream, because it was so far from where I’m from. So I’m just living my dream. It’s amazing."

Sinner gained revenge for his defeat to Alcaraz in the French Open final last month - in which he squandered three championship points - and explained that the painful loss spurred him to victory at SW19.

The four-time major champion said: "I had a very tough loss in Paris. But at the end of the day it doesn’t matter how you win or lose, especially in important tournaments, you just have to understand what you did wrong and try to work on that.

"That’s exactly what we did, we tried to accept the loss and kept working. This is for sure one of the reasons why I hold this trophy here. I’m just so grateful that I’m healthy, that I have great people around me, that’s the most important part."

Sinner admits that the victory was particularly special after the anguish he went through at Roland Garros.

He said: "Only me and the people who are close to me know exactly what we have been through on and off the court, and it has been everything except easy.

"[It is] very emotional, even if I don't cry.

"To share this moment with my whole family here, it's the most amazing thing that could have happened to me."
