The 24-year-old Welshman had turned his attention to American football, signing an active roster deal with the Jacksonville Jaguars for the 2025 season after being included in their 2024 practice squad, but after 18 months, he has decided it is "time to come home".
He revealed on his oscial media accounts: “It’s been a great experience, but it’s time to come home. I’ve decided that this is the best time to make this decision to give myself time to get everything in place for next season.
“There’s only one thing that’s on my mind, that’s coming back to rugby and doing what I do best. I can’t explain how excited I am!!
“There’ll be more news to come soon but for now, see you soon rugby fans.”
Louis - who made 32 appearances for Wales before revealing he was joining the NFL via the sport's International Player Pathway Program - initially spent five months as a running back with Kansas City before changing positions to receiver in the hope of making his way onto the playing field with Jacksonville.
Practice squads work the same amount as those on the 53-man active roster but don't get paid as much and would need promoting to play in a game.
NFL teams can have up to 16 players in their practice squads, and get an extra spot if they have a player on the International Player Pathway scheme.
