The 29-year-old spouse acknowledged he and spouse Meredith – who have 15-month-old son Bennett together – have a “different lifestyle” to many of their friends and he is grateful that she is happy to be hands-on at home so he can play his sport.
He is quoted by Today’s Golfer magazine as saying: “Every time I’m able to win a tournament, the first person I look for is my wife.
“She does a tremendous job of taking care of everything for us at home and giving me the ability to put in the amount of time and effort that I put into the game of gold, because it’s a lot.
“It’s not a lifestyle that’s suited to everybody. “We live a different lifestyle than some of our friends at home, travelling the way we do, but we’re very grateful for it.
“I feel like my whole team should have their name on the [Open] trophy with me because it takes a village.”
Despite his success, Scottie insisted his family always come above his golf.
He said: “I would say my greatest priorities are my faith and my family.
“Those come first for me. Golf is third on that list.
“I’ve said it for a long time; golf is not how I identify myself.”
