Tom Willis proud of England performance

Tom Willis is “pretty happy” with his recent performance in England’s tour of the Americas.

The Saracens Number 8 made five starts for the international side and was “excited” to be part of a fresh group of players and to seize his opportunity while some senior figures were in Australia with the Lions.

He told Rugby World magazine:” With a lot of players away smashing it with the Lions, I was excited to be amongst a younger group.

“I didn’t want to overthink it or put too much pressure on myself.

“It was a chance to start for England and I’m pretty happy with how it went.

“As a forward, you front up to the fact there’s going to be a lot of contact. In La Plata, it felt we were in our 22 the whole of that first Test, just making tackles, parked on our line.

“The scrap we showed was unbelievable. I thought it was class.

“There was a really good feeling around it.”

Tom hopes his performances have put him in a “good spot” to make more England appearances in the future.

He said: “To go out to Argentina with a young squad was an unbelievable challenge.

“It was also a pretty cool experience and an opportunity to get a couple of starts in a row.

“I think it will stand the team in good stead going forward and hopefully put me in a good spot.”
