Gervonta Davis doesn’t owe boxing fans more fights, Andre Ward says

Andre Ward doesn’t think Gervonta Davis owes boxing fans any more fights.

Tank, 30, is set to face off with Jake Paul, 28, on November 14 the Kaseya Center in Miami, Florida, and Ward, 41, has now argued fans should still back Davis in his controversial exhibition.

Speaking with ATSF, Ward said: “If his main focus is money, and his main focus is getting out of boxing without getting hurt and retiring on his own terms, shouldn’t his fanbase get on board with that if that’s not even his goal? How can we hold him to something like that if he doesn’t hold himself to that?”

Some fans have criticised the fight due to the size difference between Davis and Paul - with Tank standing at 5’6” and The Problem Child towering over him at 6’1”.

Even so, Davis - who will reportedly earn between $40 million and $50 million for his fight with The Problem Child - said he doesn’t care if he will win or lose against Paul.

He said: “Who will win? Who really cares? [I] don’t appear to.”

On X, Davis went on a rant - calling boxing “dead” before he deactivated his account.

He wrote: “Boxing definitely did a turn.

“It went from this side to that side, and this s*** has no loyalty. So why would I care? I move accordingly. Boxing is dead.”

Even so, Timothy Bradley, 42, thinks Davis will “erase” Paul in their bout.

Speaking in a video posted to his YouTube channel, he said: “It’s going to be like a bee and an elephant. You’ve got Jake, who is big, but the bee is going to scare him. He’s going to have him running.”

He added: “Tank isn’t going to lose this fight. He’s going to mop the floor with Jake Paul. He’s about to erase this leech. He’s about to cut this leech out the game.”

Earlier this month, the Paul-Davis fight - which will be streamed on Netflix - was moved from Atlanta, Georgia, to the Kaseya Center in Miami, Florida.

Paul said in a statement: “New city, same mission, seek and destroy the tank. Kaseya Center. Friday, November 14. I'm bringing the heat, and Miami will see me take down this angry elf while the world watches.”

In a statement of his own, Davis said: “Jake Paul has been cherry picking in the sport of boxing for a while now, but he picked the wrong opponent this time.

“He better start losing some weight, chasing some chickens, and pray that helps him some on fight night.”
