Quentin Lake doesn't overthink on the field

Quentin Lake has learned not to “overthink” on the field.

The 26-year-old NFL star – who plays safety for Los Angeles Rams – has realised he needs to “trust in the preparation” he’s done before a game and “let it loose” when he’s playing.

He told Gridiron magazine: “I’ve always been a player hat strives for perfection, but I’ve gotten beat at times.

“One of the goals I had this year was just trust in the preparation that you’ve done.

“You know you have the physical ability and the speed and the body movement to be able to make plays. But now you need to go and trust it.

“Don’t overthink it.

“Just anticipate what you get and then react to everything else.

“Try to make a play if you can.

“That’s something I have definitely worked through for my four years. Don’t overthink. Just let it loose.”

Quentin’s father, Carnell Lake, played 12 seasons in the NFL and had some valuable lessons for his son.

Quentin explained: “My dad always told me this acronym.

“A.P.E. – attitude, preparation, effort, the three things you can control, not only in football but life as well. Attitude, preparation, effort.

“If you’re able to control those on a day-to-day basis, he told me, you will set yourself up for success.”
