Fabio Wardley eyes heavyweight world title fight against Tyson Fury

Fabio Wardley is hoping for a world title fight against Tyson Fury.

The WBO world champion has revealed that he is keen to take on The Gypsy King should he defend his world title against Daniel Dubois in May.

Asked about the possibility of fighting Fury, Wardley told Sky Sports: "You would hope. I don't know how surely you can say about anything in boxing and anything that involves Tyson Fury as well probably has an extra caveat on top of that as well.

"That would be ideal, that would be fantastic. That would be a great fight, again testing myself against one of the best. But one fight at a time."

Wardley revealed that he even approached Fury about an immediate world title bout, before the former world champion announced his comeback fight against Arslanbek Makhmudov in April.

He recalled: "I had an open invitation to him at the start of the year before he signed up for his fight with Makhmudov and before I even signed my fight with Daniel. I said look if you want to go straightaway we can go straightaway, it's no bother.

"But if he wants a little warm-up and he wants to get through that and see how he feels, blah, blah, blah, then cool, no bother to me.

"I'll still be ready and waiting after I'm done with Daniel for a massive fight."

Meanwhile, Wardley revealed how his WBO championship belt was engraved with the incorrect nickname when he received it.

He said: "Funny story. So I got it maybe three, four weeks ago. I opened it. Looked at it; nice, shiny, cool. [It's] got the medallions either side. One says the date I won it but the other one says: 'Fabio Wardley ... The white rhino.'

"And I was like what the f*** is going on here then?"

British heavyweight Dave Allen is nicknamed 'The white rhino', while Wardley has no moniker.

The pugilist revealed that the WBO apologised for the mistake and sent him a new belt with the correct information.
