‘Conor When?’ Devin Haney’s father Bill Haney not interested in Conor Benn fight

‘Conor When?’ Devin Haney’s father Bill Haney not interested in Conor Benn fight

Devin Haney’s father and trainer Bill Haney does not consider Conor Benn a worthy opponent for his son.

After claiming revenge against Chris Eubank Jr., 36, The Destroyer, 29, is looking to move back down to the welterweight division for his next fight, but The Dream’s father is not impressed by Benn and is not interested in setting up a clash between him and his son.

Bill said: “Conor 'When'. When is he going to get a belt? When is he going to do what Devin has done?

“When is he going to do something in boxing that's on Devin Haney's level? I mean just one thing, before you start talking to us. We did the stadium in Australia [against George Kambosos], we did that for undisputed. We did [Vasiliy] Lomachenko.

“There's a lot of tremendously talented fighters that deserve a shot. Let's give the champ his well due respect.”

Haney, 27, is fresh off his victory over Brian Norman Jr., 25, who he defeated at the ANB Arena in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia on Saturday (11.22.25) to become the WBO welterweight champion.

Even so, Benn - who was watching the bout ringside - was not impressed by The Dream’s performance.

He said: “It wasn't really a great performance in my opinion. He looked scared of his own shadow in there.

“He didn't really want to engage. He is happy to nick rounds and nick fights. There wasn’t entertainment in there, and it’s the entertainment business.

“I give people fight of the year contenders. He puts people to sleep, and I'm not talking about in the ring.”

Benn’s Matchroom Boxing promoter Eddie Hearn agreed with The Destroyer, saying Haney was “fighting scared”.

He added: “He doesn’t want to engage at any moment during the fight.”

After dropping Norman Jr. in the second round, Haney won the fight on points, and added he was “here to stay” in the welterweight division.

He said after the fight: “[Norman Jr.] came out exactly how we planned, and so I was able to capitalize.

“But after I hurt him and dropped him, he made an adjustment, so we had to adjust to that as well. But he's a true champion, he's definitely better than I expected.”
