Lewis Hamilton urged to 'calm down' by Ferrari boss Fred Vasseur

Lewis Hamilton urged to 'calm down' by Ferrari boss Fred Vasseur

Lewis Hamilton has been told to "calm down" by Ferrari team principal Fred Vasseur.

The British driver bemoaned how his debut campaign with the Italian team has been the "worst season ever" after qualifying last at the Las Vegas Grand Prix but his boss believes he shouldn't be so harsh in his judgement.

Vasseur said: "I think the issue is [that] you start from P20 and for sure it will be difficult.

"But, at the end of the day, I think that was a decent first part of the race.

"We struggled a little bit more with the medium [in the second stint],

"Let’s calm down. To jump out of the car and to make the first comment, it’s always a bit too much, and it’s this case after the game."

The Ferrari chief says Hamilton has a right to be disappointed with his season but has urged the seven-time F1 world champion to give his all in the final two races of the campaign.

Vasseur said: "I can understand the reaction from Lewis just after the race.

"But we have to calm down to this case and to be focused on the next two [races].

"The next two we will be back and keep in mind that Lewis was there in FP1 and FP2 with a pace that was good.

"We have to build up the weekend like this and for sure to start from 20th is not the best way for the rest of the season."

Hamilton did salvage an eighth-place finish in Sin City but admitted after the race that he wasn't looking forward to the 2026 campaign either.

He told reporters: "I feel terrible.

"It has been the worst season ever and it keeps going worse. I am trying everything.

"I’m looking forward to it ending. And I’m not looking forward to the next one."
