Conor Benn vs Ryan Garcia targeting May 2026, Eddie Hearn reveals

Conor Benn is being lined up for a blockbuster showdown with Ryan Garcia in May 2026, his promoter Eddie Hearn has revealed.

The Destroyer, 29, has been named the mandatory challenger to the winner of The Flash, 27, vs Mario Barrios, 30, for the WBC welterweight title, and Hearn has now revealed Saudi boxing chief Turki Alalshikh wants the fight with Garcia to headline the Cinco de Mayo weekend in Las Vegas.

Speaking to talkSPORT Breakfast, he said: “Barrios is the one he targeted for a long time, he is obsessed with that WBC belt. So it was great news for him yesterday and Ryan Garcia is the big name and big draw.

“And Turki Alalshikh has announced that he wants to see Conor fight Ryan Garcia on Cinco De Mayo in Las Vegas. It would be huge, the Brits would travel out and he’d get his shot at the world title in Las Vegas.”

The Matchroom Boxing promoter added that Garcia is viewed as a “slight favorite” to beat Barrios, meaning a Benn–Garcia clash is the most commercially attractive outcome.

He said Benn will get his shot “either way”, but fighting one of boxing’s biggest global stars would be transformative for his career.

Garcia has not fought since a damaging defeat to Rolly Romero, 30 in May, but he has been handed a major opportunity to recapture momentum against Barrios, whose last outing was a controversial draw with Manny Pacquiao, 46.

With both men needing a statement win, the February fight is expected to deliver clarity in a division packed with emerging contenders.

Despite the mandatory order, Garcia has already welcomed a Benn fight - even floating the idea of crossing the Atlantic.

He said: “Conor Benn, for me, he still fights like an amateur in a way.

“His style just is made for me, is how I see it. And Conor, he wants a big fight in the U.S. and he wants a big U.S. name.

“He could come get it any time he wants. I would love to fight in the UK, possibly, and have the UK fans sing ‘Sweet Caroline’ while he walks in and go home crying.”
