The 31-year-old fly-half has spent most of his career in the country and he thinks the people of his native England could learn a lot from the French attitude to work.

Asked what aspect of French culture he will keep with him forever, he told Rugby World magazine: ”I’d say a more relaxed approach – call it laissez-faire.

“People always say in England we live to work, and in France they work to live.

“I never liked judging whole societies on a phrase but coming here I learned a lot.

“When I go home, I’m like, ‘What are you all so stressed for? Chill out.’

“I find myself thinking, ‘are we working ourselves into the ground in England.’ “

When his playing days are over, the Stade Francais star plans to work in sports psychology.

He said: “I’m just finishing my masters in sports psychology.

“It’s something I’m passionate about and it helps me prepare for the future.

“I’m currently injured, so I do rehab in the morning and then work on psychology until the evening.

“My dream is to be a sports psychologist and be on both sides – high performance and mental health.

“I think my niche is that I’ve lived a lot of these experiences, playing different levels, losing people while playing, goalkicking, all the pressures.”
