The Gypsy King, 37, had seemingly hung up the gloves for good following his defeat to Oleksandr Usyk, 38, in December 2024, but Fury has now confirmed he will be entering the ring once more later this year.
In a post on Instagram, he said: “2026 is that year. Return of the Mac. Been away for a while but I'm back now. 37 years old and still punching.
“Nothing better to do than punch men in the face and get paid for it.”
Fury has gone back on forth on his retirement, previouslt teasing “The King must return to his throne”.
He wrote on social media: “There is a long and lonely road that only I can walk on, but after the long and hard battles awaits immortality!”
Fury’s promoter Queensberry Promotions posted the same quote alongside an image of The Gypsy King sat on a throne.
While Fury has seemingly changed his tune on his boxing future, he had previously insisted he had “no reason” to get back in the ring - saying “The Gypsy King is dead”.
He told FurociTV: “There's no actual reason for me to go back in the boxing ring. I'm 37 years old, I've been punched for the last 25 years, what do I want to go back to boxing for?
“It used to be for the money, the titles, but now I've got more money than I can spend, I've got unlimited amounts of belts and titles, and does it make me any happier? No.
“Was the chase better than the victory? Yes. The climb was better than the mountain peak, to be fair. Always the case.”
Fury added he could return to boxing “at any given time”, but he just simply didn’t want to.
He continued: “I've got no interest in that clamour or the limelight, or to go get punched again, I'm not interested, it doesn't do anything for me.
“You could offer me £1 billion today, and it wouldn't move the needle, because I've gone past that point of caring about what other people think.”
Fury has been linked to Anthony Joshua, 36, for a potential bout this year, and The Gypsy King’s promoter Frank Warren has said the fight will go ahead as long as the price is right.
Speaking to Sky Sports, the Queensberry promoter said: “What will encourage Tyson is the financial aspect of it. I believe he’s got the beating of AJ, as does Tyson and the team.
“It’s all about the value of the fight. It’s a big fight and it’s worth a lot of money. Tyson has his price. If he gets his price, he’ll be in there to fight him.”
