The Gypsy King, 37, has confirmed he will fight again later this year after reversing his retirement following consecutive points defeats to Oleksandr Usyk, 39, with a comeback bout expected around April as plans accelerate behind the scenes.
Speaking to Fightlens, Bellew, 43, welcomed the return of The Gypsy King and framed it as a positive development beyond titles and rivalries.
Bomber said: “I’m happy to see him back. The most important thing is that we see Tyson Fury with boxing gloves on. That means the lad’s happy and he’s doing it for the right reasons.”
Bellew - who has sparred verbally with Fury in the past - focused on the former WBC champion’s well-documented mental health battles and the role boxing has played in providing structure and focus.
He said: “The last thing I’d ever want is to turn on the news or scroll through social media and see Tyson struggling with depression or anything like that. When he’s in a boxing gym, he seems happy.”
Fury has repeatedly spoken about how training and competition help stabilise his life outside the ring, and Bellew made clear he is unconcerned by the stop-start nature of Fury’s career.
He said: “So to me it doesn’t really matter if he retires 25 times and comes back 26. He creates headlines and says some extremely controversial stuff, but the boy can fight.
“When he gets in a boxing ring, we’re all going to be watching.”
Fury’s return has already reignited speculation about potential opponents, with his team confirming a shortlist of five or six names.
His manager Spencer Brown told Sky Sports that Arslanbek Makhmudov, 36, is among the leading candidates, with an announcement said to be “imminent”.
A different route could involve Andy Ruiz Jr., 36, who responded “let’s go” after Fury shared a mocked-up fight poster online.
Ruiz Jr., the former unified champion who famously stopped Anthony Joshua, 36, in 2019, last fought in August 2024 when he drew with Jarrell Miller, 37.
Other names linked include WBO heavyweight champion Fabio Wardley, 31, Brandon Moore, also 31, and Daniel Dubois, 28, while a trilogy with Usyk has not been ruled out if undisputed status were again on the line.
Fury has indicated he could fight up to three times across 2026 as he chases one final run at the top.
