Micky van de Ven claims Tottenham went through 'doomsday scenario' against Atletico Madrid

Micky van de Ven says that Tottenham are "taking blow after blow" at the moment.

Spurs suffered a damaging 5-2 loss to Atletico Madrid in the Champions League on Tuesday (10.03.26) and the defender admits that the team went through a "doomsday scenario" as they fell 4-0 behind in the opening 25 minutes - leading to goalkeeper Antonin Kinsky being substituted after 17 minutes after two calamitous mistakes.

Van de Ven told Dutch broadcaster Ziggo Sport: "It's actually a doomsday scenario. Everything that could go wrong went wrong.

"For our goalkeeper it's terrible as well of course. You don't wish that on anyone.

"For 15 minutes we just conceded goals that you really can't do anything about."

The Champions League defeat piled further misery on Tottenham - who are yet to win a Premier League match in 2026 and sit just a single point above the relegation zone ahead of a trip to Liverpool this weekend - and Van de Ven acknowledged that it is an "awful" time at the club.

The Dutch international said: "Right now we're just taking blow after blow after blow.

"It's just really tough, and now we also have an important match this weekend that I won't be able to play in because I'm suspended.

"It's a really terrible period, I can tell you that. It's really, really awful."

Van de Ven even revealed that he has stopped checking his phone amid the club's terrible run of results.

He said: "I'm not on my phone anymore. I'm completely done with it. Just my family, so it'll be fine.

"It's rough, really rough. I have to keep going. It's part of it, that's life and we'll see what's coming."
