Lucy Bronze confident England can win World Cup

Lucy Bronze believes England are "capable" of winning the next World Cup.

Back in 2023, the Lionesses became the first England side to reach a World Cup final since 1966 and though they lost 1-0 to Spain in the final, the defender is confident in the squad's abilities to take the "next step" in next year's tournament.

She told Times Sport: “Insane. I’m so proud to have won the Euros, but the World Cup is just another level. In the past three World Cups we finished second, fourth and third.

"We’ve shown that we’re capable of winning, we just need to go that next step in the World Cup.”

Last summer, England beat Spain 3-1 on penalties to win the Euros for the second tournament in a row and despite the "rollercoaster" of their games during the tournament - including an early defeat and a number of late equalisers - Lucy always had confidence in the team.

She said: “There was never a moment I thought that we were going home.

“For everybody else, it was a bit of a fairytale. We took the fans on a rollercoaster, but there was not one moment in any game where I did not believe.

“I just had so much confidence in our players. As soon as the full-time whistle went and it was penalties, I knew England were winning.”
