Michael Hooper revels in Wallabies captiancy

Australia flanker Michael Hooper has revealed his delight after being handed the captaincy by head coach Michael Cheika.

The Wallabies have been swift in appointing a new skipper after hooker Stephen Moore confirmed he would step down from the role before retiring at the end of the season.

Hooper is now set to captain Australia going into the upcoming Rugby Championship with the Wallabies kicking off their campaign on August 19 when they host New Zealand in Sydney.

Hooper was delighted to be handed the armband and now the 25-year-old is looking forward to leading out his side against the All Blacks later this month.

"It's a huge honour to just wear the Wallabies jersey, let alone captain the side," said Hooper.

"It's what you do in the jersey that's most important and I get another crack at showing what it means to me against New Zealand in a fortnight."
