Failed bid for Michy Batshuayi revealed

Tottenham are reported to have failed with a late deadline day move to sign striker Michy Batshuayi from Chelsea.

Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino did land a striker on Thursday when snapping up Fernando Llorente from Swansea, but reports now claim that he tried to sign Batshuayi first of all.

Chelsea quickly knocked back the bid as they would not have been unable to sign a suitable replacement in time, and Spurs then turned to Spanish ace Llorente, who was also a target for the Blues.

Chelsea wanted to sign Llorente to supplement Alvaro Morata and Batshuayi, while Diego Costa is on strike, and were not willing to let anyone leave, hence the decision to reject Tottenham's approach.

Llorente does have a better Premier League goalscoring record than Batshuayi, so Pochettino is no doubt delighted with the transfer business he did on deadline day.
