Ozil was back to his best in the win over Tottenham and all eyes would have been on the German to see if he could show the same desire against the Clarets at Turf Moor yesterday.
However nobody got the chance as he was a surprising absentee from the starting eleven that earned a late 1-0 win thanks to Alexis Sanchez's penalty.
Speaking after the game Wenger revealed the midfielder, who has been heavily linked with Barcelona, was forced to sit out after being struck down by illness.
"I don't know [what the illness is], I haven't seen him," Wenger said at his post-match press conference.
"The doctor came to see me and said he had to travel back home. He was in the hotel with us. Certainly he will be short for Wednesday. We will see what it is exactly."
