Southgate eager to get going

England boss Gareth Southgate feels his players are ready for the World Cup and just want to get down to business.

The Three Lions have now completed their pre-tournament matches and will jet off to Russia on Tuesday with the hopes of a nation resting on their shoulders.

Expectation is low, however, with Southgate picking a relatively young and inexperienced squad for the world's greatest tournament.

They will hope to get through to the knockout stage, with their opening Group G fixture against Tunisia in Volgograd next Monday.

England will then face Panama in Nizhny Novgorod on June 24 and Belgium in Kaliningrad four days later.

With the event set to kick off later this week, World Cup fever will grow day by day and the former Middlesbrough chief feels it is high time that the focus was on the pitch.

"We're pleased with how preparation has gone up until now, we fly out tomorrow so it'll be good to get on with it now," said Southgate. "Everybody is looking forward to getting to the first game."
