The Brazil international midfielder will meet up with his new team-mates for the first time later on Monday, following his £52m summer purchase from Shakhtar Donetsk.
Fred has been holidaying back in his homeland and is keen to get some minutes in against the Italians, with Jose Mourinho wanting to see what condition he arrives in.
The 25-year-old injured his ankle in training at the World Cup but United have been assured the player is now recovered and he will have a couple of intensive training sessions to evaluate his overall fitness.
Mourinho has bemoaned the number of players who are currently unavailable to him following the tournament in Russia but the arrival of Fred will put him in a slightly better mood, with a few observers commenting how downbeat the Portuguese tactician has been since arriving in America last week.
That could well be down to the United board still struggling to bring in a couple of new faces before the transfer window closes in just 18 days time, having been initially tasked by Mourinho to try and conclude their business before they made the trip across the pond.
