Bill Gates: Decarbonizing travel requires lots of innovation

Bill Gates believes the future of the planet lies in using "clean electricity" and "decarbonizing" how we travel.

The Microsoft co-founder has explained how we can travel without leaving a trail of greenhouse gas emissions behind us.

The 64-year-old American business magnate believes Biofuels and Electrofuels are the way forward when it comes to traveling via jet.

Gates also warned that we need to "get to zero net greenhouse gas emissions in every sector of the economy within 50 years" if there is any chance of reducing the impact of climate change.

As per CNET.com, Gates said that we should "use clean electricity to run all the vehicles we can, and get cheap alternative fuels for everything else."

He continued that: "To prevent the worst effects of climate change, we need to get to zero net greenhouse gas emissions in every sector of the economy within 50 years. "Decarbonizing how we move around is going to require lots and lots of innovation."

Earlier this month, Gates admitted he thinks climate change could be worse than the current Covid-19 pandemic.

He wrote in a blog post: "If you want to understand the kind of damage that climate change will inflict, look at COVID-19 and spread the pain out over a much longer period of time.

"The loss of life and economic misery caused by this pandemic are on par with what will happen regularly if we do not eliminate the world's carbon emissions."
