Apple ‘could add ChatGPT‑style AI assistant to Apple Support app’

Apple is reportedly working on a ChatGPT-style artificial intelligence (AI) assistant for its Apple Support app.

MacRumors has claimed the Cupertino-based tech company is developing a new machine-learning assistant for its Apple Support app, with evidence found in code under the name ‘Ask’.

The supposed internal feature - which is said to be still in testing - reportedly aims to power AppleCare advisors and possibly end-users with generative AI capabilities.

The code suggests the assistant will “use generative models” to provide responses related to specific Apple products and services, loading information from Apple’s internal knowledge base.

MacRumors suggested Apple includes a system warning that the assistant “can sometimes provide incorrect, misleading, incomplete, offensive, or harmful outputs,” advising customers not to rely on it as a substitute for professional advice.

MacRumors also noted there are hints of uploading support documents - such as screenshots, PDFs, or images - which would allow users to receive tailored assistance.

This aligns with prior speculation that Apple might use Apple Intelligence or a third-party Large Language Model (LLM,) potentially leveraging OpenAI or custom models.

The early version - internally referred to as ‘Ask’ - appears to be intended for technical support advisors, though it’s unclear whether Apple plans to extend it to all users.

There’s no confirmed timeline for release, but internal testing is reportedly underway.

Apple has been cautious in deploying AI, favoring on-device privacy-focused tools rather than cloud-based large language models.

The introduction of a chatbot-style assistant in its Support app would mark a significant shift toward more conversational and dynamic AI features, similar to those seen in ChatGPT-style customer support agents in other tech ecosystems.
