The company's social media platforms - including the main Facebook site, Messenger and Instagram - suffered intermittent outages as the US celebrated Thanksgiving, with users impacted across the globe.
A spokesperson initially told CNET: "We're aware that some people are currently having trouble accessing Facebook's family of apps. We're working to get things back to normal as quickly as possible."
It was determined that the problem was caused by "an issue in our of our central software systems".
The company added: "We quickly investigated, started restoring access, and we're now monitoring for full recovery. We're sorry for the inconvenience."
By midday PT (8pm GMT), Facebook revealed the issue had been resolved with its apps "back to 100% for everyone".
Despite the widespread issues, Facebook's messaging service WhatsApp seemed to be working fine.
