Tokyo Disney Resort prices could drop

Ticket prices for Tokyo Disney Resort's theme parks could be slashed.

The Oriental Land Company - which owns and operates the Disney-branded destination in Urayasu, Chiba, Japan - wants to make the move in response to people cutting discretionary spending because of inflation.

An adult one-day passport - which allows guests to either enjoy Tokyo Disneyland park, which features the castle, or Tokyo DisneySea, the nautical exploration-themed park - costs between 7,900 yen and 10,900 yen.

However, prices fluctuate throughout the year depending on demand.

The ticket proposal comes almost a year after the Oriental Land Company and Disney announced a new agreement for the Japanese firm to build and operate a Disney-branded cruise business.

Disney Cruise Line operates six ships - Disney Magic, Disney Wonder, Disney Dream, Disney Fantasy, Disney Wish, and Disney Treasure - and they go to a variety of destinations, including The Bahamas, the Caribbean, Europe, Alaska, Mexico, Canada, Hawaii, the South Pacific, and Australia and New Zealand.

According to Disney, the Oriental Land Company will operate the ship that will be registered and based in Japan year-round.

The ship - which will be built at Meyer Werft shipyard in Papenburg, Germany - will boast "about" 1,250 staterooms and designs "specially designed" for a Japanese audience

And under the new agreement, it is hoped the Oriental Land Company will be able to introduce the brand to Japan by early 2029.

Josh D’Amaro, chairman of Disney Experiences, said in a statement: "Disney Cruise Line has ambitious plans to bring family vacations and Disney storytelling to more guests around the world than ever before.

“We are thrilled to continue the success of this expansion as we collaborate with Oriental Land Company to introduce another distinctly Disney vacation experience to families and fans in Japan.”

Yumiko Takano, representative director, chairperson and CEO of the Oriental Land Company, added: "I am sincerely proud that Disney and Oriental Land will be able to work together to create a world-class cruise business in Japan.

"Oriental Land will use their knowhow from the theme park business to continue pushing boundaries and provide family entertainment cruise experiences filled with inspiration and surprise.”
