Walt Disney World fifth theme park idea is on the table

The Walt Disney Company has hinted a fifth park at the Walt Disney World Resort could be built in the future.

A new "major theme park" and two "minor theme parks" are actively being considered over the next 20 years for the Orlando, Florida tourist destination, according to the new Comprehensive Plan 2045 from the Central Florida Tourism Oversight District (CFTOD).

Obtained by WDWmagic.com, the plan from the CFTOD - the governing body and special taxing district for the land of the Walt Disney World Resort - has accounted for 400 to 550 acres of land for the fifth gate, which is set to be on a similar scale to the resort's current four theme parks, Magic Kingdom, EPCOT, Hollywood Studios and Animal Kingdom.

The two "minor theme parks" - each sizing approximately 147 acres - could suggest The Walt Disney Company may add a couple of new water parks to accompany its current aqua parks, Blizzard Beach and Typhoon Lagoon.

These parks are by no means guaranteed, but their inclusion in the Comprehensive Plan 2045 allows for the zoning and land use classification and infrastructure determined before development.

The Walt Disney Company - which has made no promises that a fifth gate will be built - will look at business strategy, guest demand and capital investment to determine if a new theme park is feasible.
