A new Which? survey of 1,676 participants revealed that Krakow topped a list of nearly 40 destinations as the location scored the highest in ratings on accommodation, food and drink, attractions, ease of getting around and value for money.
Krakow earned an impressive rating of 92 per cent and received five stars for accommodation, food and drink and because tourists find it straightforward to navigate.
The UNESCO World Heritage site is a good destination to visit throughout the year, with an impressive Christmas market and plenty more to enjoy in warmer months.
A tourist said of Krakow: "Superb food at a fair price, I've stayed many times and there are lots of good value hotels. Friendly and pretty safe."
Venice came in second and scored 90 per cent, with a five-star rating for cultural sights, attractions and accommodation.
However, the Italian canal city was let down slightly by its value for money and busy crowds - which only scored two stars and one star respectively.
Despite this, one respondent said: "It is just an incredible place to visit. There is nothing like it on Earth, so romantic and historic."
The Spanish city of Valencia and the Austrian capital Vienna were both tied in third place with a score of 89 per cent.
Valencia earned five-star ratings for food and drink as well as four stars for being simple to get around.
A participant said: "Valencia has it all. Medieval centre with associated architecture, narrow streets and old markets."
Meanwhile, Vienna was described by one respondent as "Disneyland for adults" as it got top scores for food and drink, being easy to navigate as well as its cultural sights and tourist attractions.
Meanwhile, the Turkish city of Istanbul rounded out the top five in the survey with a score of 88 per cent.
