The 35-year-old centre will be turning out for the Red Roses in the upcoming World Cup and she believes the side share similar qualities to the Lionesses, who claimed victory in the Euros last month for the second time.
She told Telegraph Sport: “It’s massively inspiring. Football is a more followed sport than rugby but we’re both in big tournaments, we’re both successful teams, we both have strong, athletic, female role models doing positive things. They had to dig deep and rally, and we have a bit of English grit about us, too.”
Fellow veteran Red Rose Natasha Hunt thinks the profile of women's rugby has risen hugely in recent years.
Reflecting on how things have changed since she began her career, the 36-year-old scrum-half said: “How much people care is the one for me.
“How much the media care, how much the fans care. People genuinely care about what we’re up to and want to be part of it.
"Before, obviously there were our parents and friends and family, but there weren’t that many people who you felt were genuinely invested in what we were doing."
Emily thinks the experience of the England side will work in their favour at the World Cup.
She said: “If you look around the group, we’ve got so much experience, whether it is PWR this season or World Cup finals.
“The value of that kind of shared experience in one team is massive. You can pull on certain people at certain times to bring a bit of clarity or to rev things up. Ultimately you don’t know until you’re in that situation but we have been in those situations and we’ve come through them.”
