We use the data we collect to provide you with the services guaranteed in the general terms and conditions of our contract. And security is always a top priority at GMX. At GMX you’ll have the best possible protection in email communication in accordance with European data protection regulations.

What information do we collect?

We process the following data collected from GMX's free webmail:

  • Account data: Information you shared with us during registration (name and date of birth, for example).
  • Content data: Content you actively use or create as a user. This includes emails, address book contacts, or files that you save in GMX Cloud. We save this information so that it is available for your use. Email content is legally protected against third-party access and is subject to secrecy of telecommunications regulations.
  • Usage data: All information generated when using a service. This data is deleted after usage has ended, in accordance with the law.
  • Traffic data: Information that is generated while using the email service (date and time of access or delivery, or the IP address of the device used to access your inbox, for example), according to section 96(1) of the Telecommunications Act.

You may revoke consent to data processing in accordance with our Privacy Policy.

We collect account data and content data to be able to fulfill the services guaranteed in our contract with you.
It is not possible to revoke the use of traffic data, as it is needed to provide you with our services.

In Data Protection & Advertisements you can find configuration options to control interest-based advertisements settings.

We use automatic, standardized analysis procedures to improve the user experience for our products, websites, and applications. If you don’t want your data to be used for analysis purposes, you can opt out.

Saving personal data

We save your traffic data in accordance with the law.

Content and usage data is deleted after 180 days of inactivity in accordance with GMX's Terms and Conditions. The email address registered at GMX and the affiliated inbox is saved and later deleted in accordance with established legal periods.
If a user wishes to delete his or her inbox, all data and the user account will be deleted, provided it does not interfere with any other legally-established periods of safekeeping.

We never share your data with third-parties

We do not sell or transfer your personal data to third-parties. Your personal data never leaves GMX; it is saved in our secure computer centers in accordance with European data protection laws. as detailed in our general Terms and Conditions.

To stop the processing of your data, you would have to terminate or revoke your existing GMX free webmail contract and stop using GMX Cloud. Find out more about your options in our Privacy Policy.

To be able to offer you complete, consistent, and unlimited access to your inbox, we process your personal data in accordance with GMX's Terms and Conditions and the GMX Privacy Policy. We will ask for additional consent for supplementary services such as push notifications for apps.

  • Usage data: Information that is generated when using the app and which provides insight into how the product is used. This data is deleted after the end of usage, in accordance with the law. When setting up the app we will ask for your permission to include additional services like push notifications to inform you about new incoming emails.
  • Traffic data: Information that is generated while using the email service, the IP address of the device used to access your inbox, for example, according to section 96(1) of the Telecommunications Act.

If a user wishes to terminate his or her relationship with GMX, all data and the account will be deleted, provided this does not interfere with any other legally-established periods of safekeeping.

Local data is deleted by deleting the application from the end device.

We do not sell or transfer your personal data to third-parties. Your personal data never leaves GMX; it is saved in our secure computer centers in accordance with European data protection laws, as detailed in our general Terms and Conditions.
