Xavi upbeat about Barcelona's Champions League fate

Xavi is "optimistic" that Barcelona can beat Bayern Munich and reach the last 16 of the Champions League.

Barca's hopes of making it through the group stages are in the balance after a 0-0 draw with Benfica on Tuesday (23.11.21) and the task is made even more difficult by their final group game being against the German giants, who defeated them 3-0 in the previous meeting.

However, the new coach of the Catalan giants is upbeat about Barcelona's European prospects.

Xavi told reporters: "What makes me most optimistic is seeing the team playing in this way.

"Playing like this we can compete with anyone. Seeing what I've seen [against Benfica], we can go to Munich and win. The positive news is we still depend on ourselves."

Xavi was pleased with Barca's performance against the Portuguese outfit and believed that it deserved more than a single point.

The coach said: "We were the better side. It was a good game. If we had just scored one goal it would have been a great game. In the end, it's a point that feels like much less.

"Being positive, I think we played well. The idea is catching on. We just lacked that goal. This is the Barca we want but we must be more clinical. That's one goal in two games - and that was a penalty.

"We have to restore the confidence of the players that score goals. I'm not just talking about the forwards, either, but the midfielders that arrive from deep as well."
