Tottenham Hotspur must become ‘serial winners’, says new manager Thomas Frank

Tottenham Hotspur manager Thomas Frank has said the club must become “serial winners”.

The Spurs won their first trophy in 17 years after beating Manchester United 1-0 in the Europa League final last month, and the club’s new manager has stressed this victory must mark a new era for Tottenham.

Speaking with Sky Sports, Frank, 51, said: “The feeling and excitement and the joy and the happiness - you could see in the fans and the pictures you saw were, wow.

“So, hopefully we can create more of those moments. That will be the ultimate to do that and build on that.

“No one can say they’re not winners. The team, the players are winners. Now we need to do our best to become serial winners in the future.”

Frank also paid tribute to Tottenham’s previous manager Ange Postecoglou - who pushed the club to victory at the Europa League final - and said he would continue the head coach’s good work.

Frank said: “Huge congratulations to the club, to the team. Huge congratulations to Ange. He will forever be a legend in Tottenham and congratulations to him for that.

“I think it’s very important to understand that we all stand on the shoulders of others. So I’m going in on the foundation that Ange has built and his coaching staff.

“I’m very humble about that and I’ll do my very best to continue the great work you’ve put in.”

The manager emphasized that teamwork - particuarly with Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy, CEO Vinai Venkatesham and technical director Johan Lange - was crucial if the club wanted to continue its winning streak.

Frank said: “I think alignment is key from top to bottom. And of course, you start from Daniel and Vinai and Johan and me. The more the four of us can be aligned, just like a unit - like an unbreakable unit - then the stronger we’ll be.

“There will be ups and downs, I think right now it’s a fairy tale … but we haven’t played one game yet.

“Hopefully we win a lot. We work very hard every single day to make sure we can create as many magic moments for the fans and hopefully [by] the end of the season … they’ll be a very good season.

“But the alignment in terms of structure, processes, transfers, squads, playing style, culture, all that is huge.”
