The 59-year-old former striker admitted the sport is “in [his] blood” and he’s pleased his former Tottenham Hotspur and Colchester United teammate Kevin Watson – who was part of his managerial team during his time in charge of Stevenage – is looking for a new coaching role as he is passionate about the game.
Teddy told the Daily Gazette: “Kevin’s a great football man.
“He always has been and he’s always talking about it.
“He loves the game and loves talking about how we can get better and always trying to learn off different people.
“He also loves coaching on the training pitch and that love for football shines through.
“That’s what we do; it’s in our blood – we weren’t ever good at school but we were good at football and you want to pass on that knowledge.”
Teddy’s professional career ended when he was 42 and playing for Colchester United in the 2007-08 season and he was “delighted” to get one final opportunity to turn out for the side.
He said: “When you’re a young footballer, you think it’s going to go on forever.
“But in those last few years, you know it’s coming with people asking you if you’re going to be playing next year.
“When Robbie asked me to come and play for Colchester, I was delighted.”
And even now, the former England international keeps an eye on the results of all his old teams.
He added: “I still look out for my old clubs; I still go through the whole lot.”
