Sonia Bompastor frustrated as Chelsea held in Women's Champions League opener

Sonia Bompastor says that Chelsea's 1-1 draw with FC Twente in their opening Women's Champions League game was "not a good result".

The Blues were forced to settle for a point against their Dutch opponents on Wednesday (08.10.25) and the coach was unhappy her team was unable to make their superiority count.

Bompastor said: "It's not a good result at all. We wanted to start the campaign with three points. Tonight, out of possession I am quite happy even if we conceded a goal. In possession when you play this goal you need to show more desire.

"We created a lot of opportunities and couldn't score more than one. We had multiple situations in the box and we had 18 crosses, only six times we were first on the ball. This is not enough when you play a Champions League game."

Despite her frustration with the result, Bompastor has urged her team to stick together and improve.

The French manager said: "I told my players after the game a bad result is tough right now but we need to stay together and take some learnings from that. That's the only thing we can do, stay together and find solutions.

"We want to be an aggressive team, we want to play a high block. I don't think Twente created a lot but once is enough for them to score. We took risks in our game but I think that is the right thing to do. We should be dominant more than what we showed."

Bompastor made seven changes to Chelsea's starting XI for the game and pundit Lianne Sanderson says the manager will face "questions" about her team selection.

Sanderson told Disney+: "Questions will be asked of Sonia because this is the competition all Chelsea fans want to win. It's only one game but you look at other teams, like Barcelona, and they got off to a flyer.

"Bompastor made too many changes. It looked disjointed. Too many changes, the chemistry wasn't there. A lot of the players that started had minimal minutes."
