The Gunners manager initially said the club needs the fans "when we don't win" after a shock loss to Manchester United on Sunday (25.01.26), but he later insisted the supporters should feel free to "react" however they want.
In a post match press conference, he said: "That's part of the demands and the expectations, that we want to win and that's it.
"Individually, everybody can react in the manner that they need."
Arteta also urged the team to "do more" to maintain their position at the Premier League summit.
Asked for his feelings about the boos, he insisted: "It doesn't matter, we have to do more, maybe that's not enough and we have to do more.
"There is nothing else. We have to do our very best.
"When you do that, you can rest in peace and today we really certainly tried to do our very best, but we weren't efficient enough against a team that is very well organised and we got punished because of our own mistakes as well."
Meanwhile, former Arsenal captain Patrick Viera urged the club to "manage that expectation" as they start to feel the pressure from fans.
He told Sky Sport: “Arsenal want to win the title so badly and are feeling the pressure and expectations from the fans. They need to manage that expectation.
"They need to go back to basics. They got to the top by playing in the right way and being positive. Arsenal haven’t won the title is a long time. The first title is always the most difficult one.
“Mikel Arteta will be showing his Arsenal players the table. But he will be analysing why Arsenal are losing points.
"There are key players that aren’t near their best for fatigue reasons or confident issues. Individual players not performing aren’t performing to help to win games."
He insisted the Gunners remain the "best team in the Premier League, and noted that the 3-2 loss to Untied was a big missed opportunity to expand their lead.
He added: "It’s sad to see Arsenal losing that momentum – that’s why it’s important to stick together.
"Liverpool are out of it. Chelsea are out of it. It’s just Manchester City and Aston Villa that can challenge them.”
