Apple fixes 'rare' bug which resurfaced deleted photos on devices

Apple has fixed a "rare" bug which resurfaced deleted photos and nudes on people's devices.

The tech giant has unveiled its latest iOS and iPadOS update 17.5.1 to address user reports of deleted images suddenly reappearing on iPhones and iPads.

In the patch notes, Apple said: "This update provides important bug fixes and addresses a rare issue where photos that experienced database corruption could reappear in the Photos library even if they were deleted.”

Users had reported these deletes images popping up at the top of the user's "recent" photos, with some people saying they included nude images.

Meanwhile, according to The Verge, at least one person's images seemingly reappeared on an iPad that had already been erased and sold to someone else.

It is currently unclear how many people have been at risk of this, while it's not known which images are likely to reappear, or what measures can be taken for devices that are no longer in your possession or control.

Apple is yet to comment on the issue publicly, despite the update just days after iOS 17.5 launched last week.
