Apple patent for folding iPhone

Apple has filed a patent for a foldable iPhone.

The tech giant looks to be exploring plans for a new version of their smartphone, with a design featuring a hinge mechanism to prevent creasing issues.

The innovative movable flaps would help the device avoid unsightly marks caused by keeping other handsets in a semi-curved state while closed.

It's said that the mechanism would "ensure adequate separation between the first and second portions when the housing is bent".

According to BBC, analyst Ben Wood said: "Apple has a long history of assessing technology and only jumping into the market when it feels a particular technology is mature enough or that it can use it in a way that makes a meaningful difference to its products.

"There is little doubt Apple has probably been assessing flexible displays for years behind closed door and it comes as no surprise it is trying to do something different."
