In the early hours of Thursday morning, customers using affected devices received a notification from the Find My Mobile feature, with many complaining the message had woken them up.
In a statement, Samsung confirmed the alert - which simply included the number '1' - had been sent unintentionally to a "limited number" of handsets.
The tech giant said: "This notification was confirmed as a message sent unintentionally during internal testing and there is no effect on your device.
"Samsung apologises for any inconvenience this may have caused to our customers and will work to prevent similar cases from occurring in the future."
While some users worried they'd been hacked, Samsung explained the message came from an internal test and hadn't do any damage to the affected phones.
Galaxy devices running on Android O or newer were impacted, including the new Galaxy S handsets, the Z-Flip and Samsung tablets.
