Universal Studios Japan confirms opening date for Minion Park

Universal Studios Japan has confirmed an opening date for its Minion Park expansion.

The new area - which originally debued at the Osaka theme park in April 2011 - will open on July 11.

It will also feature an improved version of Illumination's Villain-Con Minion Blast attraction, which premiered at Universal Studios Florida in August 2023.

The ride - which will join the area's current ride offering, Despicable Me: Minion Mayhem and Freeze Ray Sliders - is an immersive and technologically advanced experience.

Unlike its counterpart at the Universal Orlando Resort, the Japanese version boasts exclusive content and improved gameplay.

At the start of the attraction, guests make their way through the trade show floor of Villain-Con, and look at the latest gadgets, vehicles and fashion outfits required to successfully carry out henious schemes.

They then pick up their E-Liminator X blaster and step on to a moving walkway.

Guests use their blasters to shoot freeze rays, banana bombs, explosive nunchucks and more to cause as much destruction as possible and earn points.

This will determine how bad a family member or a friend is, as well as if they have what it takes to be a new member of the Viscious 6 villan group - which features Belle Bottom (Taraji P. Henson), Stronghold (Danny Trejo) , Nun-Chuck (Lucy Lawless), Jean Clawed (Jean-Claude Van Damme) and Svengeance (Dolph Lundgren) .

In addition to Illumination's Villan-Con Minion Blast, Minion Park will have two new food locations - Evil Eats and Evil Stuff.

Universal - which opened a Minion Land at its Singapore theme park in February 2025 - now has a Minions area in all five of its theme parks, Hollywood, Orlando, Japan, Singapore and Beijing.
