Emirates orders 65 Boeing 777X Aircraft

Emirates orders 65 Boeing 777X Aircraft

Emirates has placed a major new order for Boeing’s next-generation 777X aircraft, signing a deal for 65 additional 777-9 jets at the Dubai Airshow.

The purchase marks the airline’s third commitment to the 777X programme and further strengthens its position as the world’s largest customer for Boeing’s flagship widebody.

The latest order brings Emirates’ total 777X commitment to 270 aircraft across both the 777-8 and 777-9 models.

The carrier, already the world’s largest Boeing 777 operator, said the decision reflects long-term growth plans as travel demand continues to rise.

HH Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum, chairman and chief executive of Emirates Airline and Group, said: "Emirates is already the world’s largest Boeing 777 operator, and we are expanding our commitment to the program today with additional orders for 65 Boeing 777-9s.

"This is a long-term commitment to our partnership with Boeing and to U.S. aerospace."

Al Maktoum added that fleet planning remains closely aligned with the development ambitions of Dubai.

He said: "Each of our aircraft on order have been carefully factored into Emirates’ growth plan, which is aligned to Dubai’s growth plans."

The 777-9 is set to become the world’s largest twin-engine aircraft and will introduce improvements in fuel efficiency, emissions and passenger comfort.

Boeing says the jet will reduce fuel use and emissions by 20 per cent compared to the aircraft it replaces, while offering a wider cabin, higher humidity, more natural light and a smoother ride.

Stephanie Pope, president and CEO of Boeing Commercial Airplanes, welcomed the order.

Pope said: "We are deeply honored that Emirates has once again selected the Boeing 777X to power its future as the airline refreshes its world-class fleet and expands its vaunted global network.

"Boeing has been a proud supporter of Emirates over the past 40 years as the airline has grown into one of the world’s leading carriers and developed a reputation for excellence and innovation."

The order comes as Boeing forecasts sustained widebody demand in the Middle East.

The manufacturer’s 2025 Commercial Market Outlook predicts the region will need nearly 3,000 new widebody jets over the next two decades, driven by long-haul growth and expanding hub operations.
