Ski holidays spark arguments among couples, new research has found.

While the snowy breaks may promise crisp mountain air and picture-perfect pistes, a study by ski holiday provider Sunweb has revealed that arguments are common on the slopes, with more than a third of couples admitting to clashing while skiing together.

According to the research, 38 per cent of people have argued with their partner during a ski trip, with differences in ability emerging as one of the biggest pressure points. Nearly one in five respondents, 17 per cent, said they had cried after being pushed into attempting a run that was beyond their comfort level.

For others, the emotional strain came from simply trying to keep pace. One in eight people, 13 per cent, said they had been reduced to tears because they could not keep up with a faster partner, turning what should have been a shared experience into a source of stress.

Tensions are not limited to couples alone. Almost one in three people, 30 per cent, admitted to arguing with someone during a ski holiday, whether that was a partner, friend or family member. Generational differences were also clear, with millennials emerging as the most argumentative group. More than a third of millennials, 35 per cent, reported falling out with someone on the slopes, compared with just 14 per cent of baby boomers, who appeared far more relaxed under pressure.

With emotions running high and relationships at risk of turning frosty, Sunweb has launched a tongue-in-cheek initiative aimed at restoring harmony. The company has introduced a limited-time discount code, COUPLESTHERAPSKI26, offering couples £100 off a ski holiday.

Sunweb said the saving is equivalent to the cost of an hour-long couples therapy session, giving partners the chance to work through any post-holiday grievances.

Sunweb spokesperson Jack Bolus said: "Ski holidays are meant to be fun, but behind the exhilarating slopes, crisp mountain air and enticing après ski, our research has shown certain factors can cause couple’s relationships to turn frosty.

"It is for this reason we wanted to give back to our coupled customers, giving them a discount that allows them to book an hour’s therapy session to ensure their worries are taken care of and they can enjoy their next ski trip stress-free!"
