Emma Raducanu won't hide away after Coco Gauff loss at the Italian Open

Emma Raducanu doesn't want to "hide in a hole somewhere" after being beaten by Coco Gauff at the Italian Open.

The British tennis star suffered a comprehensive fourth round loss to world number three in Rome on Monday (12.05.25) and suggested that she could play another tournament in the lead-up to the French Open, which starts on May 25.

Raducanu told Sky Sports: "I would love to just keep improving and keep playing; I think that is a positive for me.

"I don’t want to go and hide in a hole somewhere, I want to get back out there.

"We will see where it goes in the next week before the French."

Raducanu explained that she can understand why Gauff is ranked so high in the world after being "outplayed" in tricky conditions in the Italian capital.

The former US Open champion said: "It was very bouncy, there was not much clay on the court, and it was quite windy too.

"Coco also played a really good match and I definitely saw why she is two [three, but will move above Iga Swiatek at the end of the tournament] in the world right now.

"She played really well and I do think I got outplayed today, and I have no shame in saying that.

"I am just looking forward to trying to work to get better."

Raducanu played with a smile despite her bruising defeat and explained that it is the mindset she wants to adopt whenever she is on court.

The British number two said: "It makes it more enjoyable, it makes it more sustainable.

"It does not make the losses feel as bad, because I just know every day I am trying to be the best version of myself and win the day, and I’ve gone back to that.

"I did not win on the match court today, but I am going to find a way to win the day."
