Ruben Amorim calls win over Liverpool his ‘biggest’ victory of his Manchester United tenure

Ruben Amorim has called Manchester United’s win over Liverpool his “biggest” victory of his tenure as manager.

The Red Devils secured a much-needed three points against Liverpool at Antfield on Sunday (10.19.25), and Amorim has now hailed the 2-1 victory as “the biggest win in [his] time at Manchester United”.

Speaking with Sky Sports, the 40-year-old manager said: “It means a lot today, but tomorrow it won't mean a lot. It's three points and it's a good victory.

“We fought for every ball, we lost our composure in the second half, but the spirit was there and that is the most important thing. If you have the spirit, you can win any game.”

Bryan Mbeumo, 26, silenced home supporters at Antfield when he scored in the opening two minutes, and Liverpool had to wait until the second half for Cody Gakpo, also 26, to equalise in the 78th minute.

However, a late header from Harry Maguire, 32, secured the Red Devils victory, and a much-needed three points.

Although Amorim is happy with the win, the head coach is focused on Manchester United’s next game with Brighton and Hove Albion, which will take place on Saturday (10.25.25).

He said: “It was a good day and now I am concerned about Brighton. I will enjoy it but let's focus on Brighton.

“We just saw the game and knew how important our set-pieces are and the guys that have more experiences are on in the beginning.

“Every time we play in this environment well, if you block well in the beginning, you can feel the defence turning, and we feel that in our stadium and all the big teams feel that. A good win.

“It will give us more confidence through the week and pleasure to our fans. They deserve it and that is in our hands.

“This is in the past. Now it's time to look at the future.”

The victory - which was Manchester United’s first win at Antfield since 2016 - secured the Red Devil’s their first back-to-back wins in the Premier League, after defeating Sunderland 2-0 earlier this month.

Manchester United’s win over Liverpool may have also relieved some of the mounting pressure to sack Amorim following a string of poor results earlier this season.
