Resident Evil: Survival Unit revealed by dev Aniplex as a ‘global multiplayer’ mobile game

Capcom has officially unveiled its new mobile game Resident Evil: Survival Unit.

The publisher has teamed up with developer Aniplex for the iOS and Android title, which is being promised as a fresh spin on the long-running survival horror franchise.

Described as a “global multiplayer experience”, Resident Evil: Survival Unit brings together familiar characters, including Leon S. Kennedy, Jill Valentine, and even the enigmatic merchant from Resident Evil 4 in a new storyline set in a parallel universe.

Unlike traditional Resident Evil titles, Survival Unit focuses on cooperative gameplay with players from around the world teaming up to battle hordes of infected enemies.

According to Aniplex, the game blends action and strategy elements, with each Survival Unit offering different abilities and roles during combat.

Capcom’s Masachika Kawata described the game as a “dream come true for Resident Evil fans”, with the developers expressing excitement about blending Capcom’s horror legacy with a globally accessible multiplayer experience.

He said in a statement: “For me, it’s so refreshing to see characters who didn’t have major roles in the main series now take center stage in this game.

“Also, as this is a strategy game, I think those interested in Resident Evil, but who aren’t as interested in action games, can enjoy it.”

A teaser trailer, released alongside the announcement, showcases stylised graphics and high-intensity co-op action, as well as cinematic cutscenes featuring the fan-favourite characters.

While Capcom has not yet announced a release date for Resident Evil: Survival Unit, sign-ups for early access testing are expected in the coming months.

Resident Evil: Survival Unit marks one of the franchise’s most ambitious mobile projects to date, aiming to bring classic characters and fresh gameplay to a global audience.
